This brief discussion would not be complete without mentioning the ViewMaster, which was a system invented in 1939, and enjoyed a major boost in the early 60’s with the increase in international vacational travel. Photographic reels held 7 stereo-pairs of pictures, that were viewed in a cheap plastic viewer. It was easy to buy the reels in any local place of interest, and there even existed cameras, and mounting services, such that you could produce your own. In recent years its popularity has declined however, and it is mainly delegated to being a toy, with shots from children’s films and cartoons.
