In 1955 this was a revolutionary car. It's a Citroën DS, also known as The Goddess (from the French word déesse) In Dutch this car is called a Snoek (a pike). This was the car with the most hydraulics in it's time. Suspension, clutch, steering, transmission and brakes...everything. Although nowadays it isn't surprising at all, in the fifties it was like science fiction! A car with a very innovative technology including a self-levelling suspension. Citroën sold nearly 1,5 million D-series in the twenty years the car was produced. In 1955 69 cars came out of the Citroën factory, at it's peak in 1970 a total of 103.663 were produced per year. In 1975 the last DS was made, what makes this beauty proper oldskool!

I have the pleasure of living in a DS infested neighbourhood. Got at least three standard DS's here. One is a very beautiful first series model:

And what's very cool, there are also two station car versions that are often out on the street aswell. Pretty rare nowadays:

Ah so DS stands for Dutch Son? Makes sense now.

This is such an awesome looking car that I can't understand why Citroën isn't following the retro trend by releasing a new car for it in modern times.

Would look amazing I am sure.

Very cool indeed.but there is one ds that rules them all: the citroen/ michelin PLR. A 10 wheeled monster that michelin used in 1972 to test their new truck tires. It is powered by two chevy small blocks. the curious thing is that one engine drives the 6 backwheels and the other drives a truck tire that is located in the middle of the car. This way they could run that tire up to dangerous levels of torture. Quite ingenious. And here she is:

But when it comes to the shear beauty of the car nothing beats this one imo.
